In the midst of busy schedules and troubling news, I came across a tale that I found to be hopeful...every now and then someone sticks up for "the little guy" and lends a helping hand. In this case, the little guy is a turtle, and the story is that New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority is building tiny turtle bridges on railroad tracks thanks to the efforts of a citizen scientist who discovered that turtles were getting trapped between railroad tracks and couldn't get out. With these new bridges, turtles are now able to climb out of the tracks once they get trapped between them, saving them from what was before a certain death.
