A Kindred Spirit

I love sandwiches. I realize I have already written about this fact, but it is an influential factor in my approach to food and eating. I am always in the mood for a great sub, and sandwiches have been my favorite food since I was 5 years old.

I recently learned that Matt Bonner, power forward for the San Antonio Spurs, also loves subs. Sandwiches hold such a special place in his heart that he has to have one every game day at lunch, and on his road trips he tries to find the best sandwich purveyor in town.

I am a big Spurs fan, even though I'm not even remotely good at playing basketball. Matt Bonner is a Spurs basketball player, and he is much better than me at basketball. He's also much taller than me, I should point out.

I have red hair, and people have called me names because of my red hair. Matt Bonner has red hair (our lone representative in the NBA!), and people call him the "Red Rocket" because of his red hair. I will acknowledge that at Spurs games, confused fans have even yelled, "Hey, Red Rocket!" at me.

I met Matt Bonner once at a Spurs "Meet 'n' Greet" in San Antonio. I wore a homemade shirt that simply said "Spurs Fan" on the front in bold letters. Matt Bonner really liked my shirt.
