Watermelons
The 27th annual Carytown Watermelon Festival is this weekend, providing a fun, summer activity that will attract over 100,000 people to a small strip in Richmond.
One year ago, Aubree and I moved to Richmond and remember running into the Carytown Watermelon Festival our first weekend here as we were attempting to explore the city and drove into the Carytown neighborhood. We quickly realized we had to turn around as the entire street was overwhelmed with people celebrating the great summer fruit, watermelon.
The Carytown Watermelon Festival is the state's biggest one-day festival and features plenty of food, music, and activities for families. Carytown is a small neighborhood in Richmond that centers along a one-mile strip of Cary Street featuring numerous locally owned shops and restaurants, and it is one of the main attractions of the city.
If you can't make it to Carytown for the watermelon festival (and we will likely pass on going in person as well due to the overwhelming crowds), you can still celebrate at home by enjoying a slice of watermelon. You can also read more about the event at Carytown's website by clicking here.
