I have heard of how beautiful and abundant American chestnut trees used to be, particularly throughout forests along the eastern coast and in the Appalachian mountains. Known for their towering height, I can remember my dad telling me about how he grew up seeing these majestic trees in the forests near where he lived, but the trees were nearly wiped out due to a devastating fungus. I was pleased to come across an article that tells of their comeback. Perhaps someday I can take a walk through the woods in Pennsylvania and appreciate an abundance of chestnut trees that my dad used to enjoy!
