Little League Dreams

Summer is almost over, and as we head into the final days of August, the annual Little League World Series once again takes place in Williamsport, Pennsylvania to remind us all of the fun and excitement that exists in the sport of baseball. This is a game that is both young and old at the same time; both American and global; both full of joy and full of heartache; full of fear and full of courage...you get the idea.

Baseball had a profound impact upon my childhood and was one of the great joys during my youth. For years my brother and I played one-on-one baseball in a park down the alley, forming a trio with our cousin during the summer months, until we reached the age when we could join a full team. I know I cherished those experiences and memories as a member of a baseball team, and while we rarely experienced victory, the fun of playing baseball in Little League was something I would never trade.

At the same time, I'll admit that watching the youth in the Little League World Series makes me slightly envious of their talents and success...a dream come true I'm sure for all of them to be participating in such a prestigious event. This year, a team from San Antonio, representing the McAllister Park neighborhood, is in the World Series, and I will be cheering for them this summer!
